AbstractÉ feita uma análise da utilização de imagens aérofotográficas (escalas 1:25.000 e 1:60.000) e orbitais (SKYLAB e LANDSAT-l) no estudo dos padrões de drenagem que ocorrem em Solos Podzolizados variação Lins e variação Marília, e em Latossol Vermelho Escuro fase arenosa, mapeados ao nível de reconhecimento. A área de estudo, representada por uma imagem MSS do LANDSAT-1, está localizada no Planalto Ocidental do Estado de São Paulo, onde ocorrem os climas subtropical úmido (Cwa) e tropical úmido (Aw) segundo a classificação de Köppen, com geologia constituída predominantemente por arenitos da Formação Bauru. São estudados elementos descritivos e quantitativos, sendo estes últimos calculados a partir de amostras circulares representativas. Nas condições do estudo, os resultados permitiram chegar, entre outras, às seguintes conclusões: a) a análise e interpretação dos padrões de drenagem fornecem dados suficientes para caracterizar as unidades de solo nas fotografias aéreas e do SKYLAB. Em imagens LANDSAT outros padrões de interpretação convencional podem assumir maior importância, como feições tonais e texturais; b) as características dos padrões de drenagem foram condicionadas, principalmente, pela natureza e propriedades dos solos; c) existe uma tendência de aproximação dos valores de cada característica quantitativa, reduzindo a separabilidade dos três tipos de solo, à medida que a escala das fotografias diminui. ABSTRACT: An analysis is made of the utilization of aerial photographic imagery (1: 25,000 and 1: 60,000 scales) and orbital imagery (SKYLAB and LANDSAT-1) for studying drainage patterns occurring in Lins and Marília Podzolic Soils and in a Dark Red Latosol (sandy phase) mapped at the reconnaissance level. The study area, represented by one frame of LANDSAT-1 MSS imagery, is located on the Planalto Ocidental of the State of São Paulo. Climatic types represented (according to Köppen's classification) are humid subtropic (Cwa) and humid tropic (Aw). Geologic types are predominantly composed of Bauru Formation sandstones. Descriptive and quantitative elements are studied, the latter being calculated from representative circular samples from the imagery. The following conclusions were draw a result of this study: a) the analysis and interpretation of the drainage patterns provided sufficient data for the characterization of the soil units in the aerial and SKYLAB photographs. In LANDSAT imagery, other patterns of conventional interpretation can assume greater importance, such as tonal and textural features; b) the characteristics of the drainage patterns were conditioned primarily by the nature and properties of the soils; c) a tendency of approximation of the values of each quantitative characteristic exists, reducing the separability of the three soil types as the photographic scale decreases.
